Luther Campbell, a.k.a. Luke Skyywalker and Uncle Luke, wants to run for mayor of Miami-Dade County. While the idea of having the former leader of 2 Live Crew running for mayor is a bit unusual, Campbell has some very good ideas. He has a common sense approach that may be just what Miami needs.
In an interview with Francisco Alvarado of Miami New Times, Campbell said he was running for mayor out of frustration. Campbell said, “I have always been involved in politics, going back to my battles in the city of Miami Beach, dealing with the city commissioners and the mayor. I ran my own nightclub, and I believed African-Americans were treated badly during Memorial Day weekend.”

According to Campbell, this is not the first time he has considering running for office. In the past he has been talked out of running for one reason or another.
Campbell said he plans to review the budget if when he takes office. He has experience in budgeting from running a successful record company.
Attention Strippers: Luther Campbell max tax you for shaking your booty if he becomes mayor. Campbell said, “Even though all my stripper friends are gonna be mad at me, I think we can stimulate the economy with a tax on strippers”
Could Luther Campbell really win his bid for mayor of Miami? It may be a long shot, but in Miami, anything is possible. If people actually see Luther Campbell as more than that guy from 2 Live Crew, he has a chance.
Luther Campbell will no doubt get help from his many friends, including Cuban rapper Pitbull.
Even New York Magazine has endorsed Luke for mayor in a recent article. The article eloquently stated “it doesn’t take a friggin’ expert to know that former 2 Live Crew svengali Luther Campbell — a.k.a. Luke, a.k.a. Uncle Luke, a.k.a., at least a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, before George Lucas sued him, Luke Skyywalker — would make an excellent mayor.”
On March 15, Miami-Dade County voters will head to the polls to vote on if the current mayor of Miami, Mayor Carlos Alvarez, will get to keep his job or be thrown out of office. If Alvarez is removed from office, Campbell will run either in a special election or he will wait until 2012 if needed.
Will Mayor Carlos Alvarez be out of a job? Could Uncle Luke actually become Miami’s new mayor? Only time will tell.
California had the Terminator for governor. Miami can have Luke Skyywalker for mayor.
Watch out Governor Rick Scott, your job may be next on Uncle Luke’s to do list.
